ABOUT GUTIERREZ: Named preseason Honorable Mention All-America by Division II Bulletin…Tough defensive oriented guard and prototypical “gym rat”…Superlative scorer who can finish inside and shoot from the perimeter.
AS A JUNIOR (2010-11): Started and appeared in 30 of the squad’s 31 contests…Garnered first-team All-Conference honors from the NE-10…Also named an NABC first-team All-East pick…Earned Daktronics/CoSIDA second-team All-East honors as well…Finished fifth in the NE-10 with a team-leading 17.9 points and was seventh behind 1.8 steals per-game…Wound up 11th in free throw shooting and finished 14th in field goal shooting percentages…Buried .803 (118-for-147) percent of his chances from the stripe and .484 (198-for-409) percent of his shots from the floor…Was twice named the NE-10 Player of the Week (1/22/10 & 2/7/11)…Was furthermore chosen to the conference’s weekly honor roll on two other occasions (1/24/11 & 2/14/11)…Paced the squad in scoring a team-high 14 times…Was in double-figures throughout 28 games, including 21 of the last 22, and tossed in at least 20 points on 10 occasions…Also recorded back-to-back “double-doubles”…Finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 90-64 victory versus Assumption (11/17/10) and repeated that performance in an 86-70 triumph versus Concordia (11/21/10)…Twice tossed in a career-high 27 points…The first came in a 72-66 win at Southern New Hampshire (1/13/11) and then followed up that effort during a 92-82 setback at UMass Lowell (1/22/11).
AS A SOPHOMORE (2009-10): Appeared in all 28 games and made one start…Averaged 5.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.5 steals throughout 17.0 minutes per-game…Finished in double-figures scoring on five occasions…Scored a season-high 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the floor throughout a 94-72 victory versus Mercy (12/30/09)…Also canned four of his five 3-point attempts in that game…Pulled down a then career-high seven rebounds during an 80-77 overtime victory versus Saint Michael’s (1/6/10)…Handed out a then career-best three assists on four occasions.
2008-09: Did not dress three years ago.
AS A FRESHMAN (2007-08): Appeared in all 31 of the team’s games…Averaged 2.5 points in 10.5 minutes of reserve action…Had a season-high nine points in 15 minutes during a 77-59 victory versus Stonehill (12/6/07)…Tossed in eight points, behind 4-for-7 shooting from the floor, throughout 19 minutes of action in an 88-68 win versus Franklin Pierce (1/26/08)…Had back-to-back six point efforts in the NE-10 Tournament, a 64-61 quarterfinal triumph versus Bryant (3/3/08) and a 72-44 semifinal loss to visiting Assumption (3/6/08).
HIGH SCHOOL: Was named an All-Queens All-Star as a senior at John Adams after averaging 15.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists…Canned 70.7 percent (29-for-41) of his free throws and buried 26, 3-pointers…Averaged 11.8 points, 6.6 boards and 6.0 assists throughout five postseason contests.
GENERAL: Played for the Brooklyn Warriors AAU team…Listed Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan as the athletes he most admires…Said his mother along with both his high school and AAU coaches are the people who have had the most influence on him…Favorite movies include “Wedding Crashers”, “Step Brothers” and “Wall Street”…Favorite foods include steak, chicken and rice…Aspires to start his own mutual fund after graduating from Saint Rose…Added that his favorite sports moment to date was leading his high school team to the state Final Four.
