Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, MA – Junior guard
Dan Mundweiler gave The College of Saint Rose the lead and later secured that lead by going 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final 65 seconds to help pick up a 67-62
Northeast-10 Conference win earlier today at American International.
Mundweiler finished with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals to do a little of everything for the Golden Knights (6-2/4-2 NE-10), as they came back from a six-point halftime disadvantage. Senior guard
Andre Pope and freshman forward
Tyler Sayre shared the game-high of 16 points as Sayre also added seven rebounds. Furthermore, junior center
Dominykas Milka tied a career-high 18 rebounds, a mark he set last week at Pace, to go along with 15 points for his sixth “double-double” on the year.
A pair of guards, senior Sesso Ikpah and junior Spencer Braithwaite, each scored 15 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (4-4/2-4 NE-10). Senior guard Ricky Hudson added 10 points and team-best eight rebounds as well as four assists.
Sayre accounted for 10 of the first 12 points as Saint Rose opened the game with a 12-5 lead. Later in the half, Mundweiler and Pope connected on back-to-back buckets to afford the Golden Knights a 20-14 advantage with 4:20 left until halftime. From that point, the Yellow Jackets went on a 14-2 run to conclude the first half and walk into the locker room up 28-22.
Pope put through a layup the allowed Saint Rose to regain the lead at 33-32 less than four minutes after the break. The Yellow Jackets, however, evened the score at 36 just three minutes later. After the Golden Knights took a 42-36 lead, American International used a 15-4 run to erase the deficit and gain back the lead.
Saint Rose then fell behind by seven points after Ikpah buried a 3-pointer for the Yellow Jackets. However, Milka highlighted a 7-0 spurt for the Golden Knights with an old fashioned, three-point play on a layup and a free throw to tie the game once again at 56-56.
Facing a 59-58 deficit, Mundweiler stepped to the free throw line and knocked down two free throws to give Saint Rose a lead it did not relinquish. A Milka layup, a free throw by Pope, and four free throws combined by Milka and Mundweiler allowed the Golden Knights to secure the win and close out a clutch second half for the league's top free throw shooting team.
Pope scored 14 of his 16 points in the final half, going 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Saint Rose also turned the ball over only three times in the second half after doing so nine times throughout the first period.
Next weekend, the Golden Knights travel to Garden City, NY to take part in the Adelphi Holiday Tournament for two non-conference games. Saint Rose first faces Bridgeport on Saturday at 1:00 pm followed by a 12:00 pm tip-off versus Philadelphia on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets also make a trip to Long Island this upcoming week. They will visit Molloy in Rockville Centre, NY for a 7:30 pm non-conference date on Wednesday.
