Box Score

GARDEN CITY, NY – Junior center Dominykas Milka collected a near court length inbound pass from junior forward James Wilson and hit nothing but net with a 10 foot turnaround jumper to lead The College of Saint Rose past Bridgeport 56-54 this afternoon at the Adelphi Holiday Classic.

Milka wound up with his fifth straight and seventh “double-double” of the year to pace the Golden Knights (7-2) behind 16 points and 17 rebounds. Senior guard Andre Pope went 10-for-12 from the free throw line to lead all scorers with 20 points. He also handed out six assists and came up with three steals.

Meanwhile, senior forward Dion Waiters finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and six steals before fouling out with four minutes remaining for the Purple Knights (3-7). Also, senior forward Lloyd Antoine tossed in 10 points throughout 20 minutes off the bench.

After Saint Rose opened the scoring, Bridgeport led throughout the ensuing 37 minutes and built its advantage to as many as 10 points, 49-39, with 6:42 to go after Lloyd converted a layup.

However, the Golden Knights scored 13 unanswered points throughout the next four and half minutes to take a 52-49 lead with 2:20 showing on the clock. Freshman forward Chris Dorgler ignited the run with a jumper and eventually made it 50-49 Saint Rose by finishing inside. Pope then came up with a block on the other end and buried a pair of free throws to afford Saint Rose its aforementioned three point cushion.

Junior forward Ivan Simic finally canned two from the line to end the Bridgeport scoring drought. After Saint Rose came up empty, Bridgeport then missed two free throws and Milka scored inside off a Pope pass to make it 54-51 Golden Knights with 1:03 remaining.

Senior guard Omari Howard finished a layup to make it a one point game, 54-53, with 41 ticks left, but after the Golden Knights coughed it up, junior guard Ognjen Zoric was only able to convert the second of two free throws after he was fouled on the perimeter with a mere 1.4 seconds remaining.

The contest thus appeared destined for overtime until Milka brought closure to a game that was marred by 40 turnovers, 20 each side, and less than 40.0 percent shooting by both clubs.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose closes out its tournament appearance tomorrow with a 1:30 pm game versus Philadelphia University. Meanwhile, Bridgeport will meet host Adelphi tomorrow at approximately 3:30 pm.
