Box Score

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The College of Saint Rose suffered its first defeat of the 2012-13 campaign with a 64-59 setback at Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University this afternoon. The Setters shot 75.0 percent (12-for-16) from the foul line, while the Golden Knights (5-1/3-1 NE-10) converted an uncharacteristic 54.5 percent (6-for-11) after entering the day burying a league best 81.3 percent (87-for-107) from the stripe.

Ultimately, the Setters (4-3/2-3 NE-10) sealed it down the stretch. They scored six unanswered points during the final 38 seconds that allowed them to overcome a one point, 59-58, deficit after Saint Rose junior guard Dan Mundweiler drained a 3-pointer from the left side of the key.

Junior forward Dominykas Milka scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and hauled in 18 rebounds before fouling out with 1:14 remaining to lead the Golden Knights. It represented his fourth “double-double” of the year. Also, senior guard Andre Pope scored 13 points and handed out seven assists to go with three blocks and a pair of steals, while Mundweiler wound up with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Senior forward Keon Williams led the Setters who snapped a two-game skid. Williams finished with 23 points and nine rebounds while junior forward Jonathan Merceus registered 13 points and 11 boards. Junior guard Devon Primus-Devonish was also in twin-figures with 11 points.

Pace assumed control at the outset by opening up a nine point, 20-11, lead with 7:23 left in the first period. However, Saint Rose closed the half on a 16-8 run that pulled the Golden Knights to within a point, 28-27, at intermission after freshman forward Chris Dorgler drained a 3-pointer in the final second.

Saint Rose then took its first lead since the 16:04 mark of the opening half when Milka knocked down a jumper that made it 33-32 with 17:00 to go. The Golden Knights subsequently boosted their advantage to six, 40-34, with 13:38 left after Mundweiler drained a trey.

However, back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman forward Jaylen Mann and freshman guard Salvatore Vitello sandwiched around a Golden Knights turnover brought about the game's first tie, 40-40, with 12:38 showing on the clock. There were five more ties during the ensuing 10 minutes, but the Saint Rose scoring drought down the stretch allowed the Setters to hang on for the win.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Wednesday to host league leader Assumption at 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, Pace is on the road Tuesday with a 7:30 pm league date at Adelphi on Long Island.
