SYRACUSE – Senior guard Andre Pope hit a layup at the buzzer to lift The College of Saint Rose to a 68-66 victory at Northeast-10 Conference and Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne tonight. The Golden Knights rallied from an 11 point halftime deficit by holding the Dolphins to 29.6 percent (8-for-27) shooting from the floor throughout the second half.

Junior guard Dan Mundweiler scored 13 of his team-high 21 points in the second half and handed out three assists to pace Saint Rose (4-0/2-0 NE-10). Freshman forward Tyler Sayre wound up with 11 points while junior center Dominykas Milka finished with nine points, eight rebounds and three steals. Pope had nine points as did freshman forward Chris Dorgler who also pulled down five rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.

For Le Moyne (1-1/1-1 NE-10), junior forward Brian Zapisek tossed in a game-high 24 points thanks to 5-for-6 shooting from 3-point territory while junior guard Nate Champion wound up with 15.

The second half featured six ties and seven lead changes as the Golden Knights scored nine unanswered points in the early going that transformed a12 point, 44-32, deficit into a three point shortfall, 44-41, with 16:16 remaining. Mundweiler then drained a trey and hit a free throw that afforded Saint Rose its first lead, 47-46, since the game's opening moments with 11:12 showing on the clock.

The game was on at that point as the lead exchanged hands six more times during the ensuing six minutes before Mundweiler finished a fastbreak that made it 59-57 Saint Rose with 5:44 to go. The Golden Knights never trailed again although the Dolphins forced three more ties including one at 66-66 with 42 ticks showing after Zapisek went 1-for-2 from the stripe.

Both squads then came up empty on their next trips up the floor, which set the stage for Pope at the end.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning home next Wednesday, November 28 to host NE-10 rival Adelphi. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Dolphins are back on the hardwood next Wednesday as well with a 7:30 pm conference date at American International in Springfield, MA.
