THE PLOT: The College of Saint Rose will play its third straight game at home to open this season and also begin action in the
Northeast-10 Conference, hosting New Haven tonight inside Noaln Gymnasium.
LAST MEETING (2/21/12): The Golden Knights held on down the stretch for a three-point victory, 73-70, against visiting New Haven in the season-finale. Four players were in double-figures for Saint Rose, led by 18 points on the part of senior guard
Andre Pope. Rob Gutierrez went 7-of-8 from the free throw line to help account for his 17 points in the contest.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE: The Golden Knights protected their home court well this weekend, winning both of their games in Saint Rose Tip-Off Tournament presented by Hilton Garden Inn-Albany Medical Center. Following a 69-53 win against Mercy on Saturday evening, Saint Rose rolled to an 85-56 victory versus Concordia Sunday afternoon. Pope has started his final campaign on a high-note, averaging a team leading 17.0 points per-game as well as dishing out 3.5 assists. The senior has stroked the ball well from beyond the arc, going 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Junior center Dominykas Milka has averaged a "double-double" with 16.0 points and 11.0 boards a game. The Golden Knights furthermore held their two opponents to a collective 34.5 shooting percentage.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN:
The Chargers have dropped their only contest of the season, a 77-73 home overtime loss to Dowling this past Sunday. After leading by as many as 10 points in the second half, New Haven had its lead slip away and eventually tied IT with just two seconds left in regulation. New Haven senior guard Jeremy Williams scored a game-high 22 points in the effort. Sophomore forward Eric Anderson contributed 12 points and nine rebounds while junior guard Jeffrey Adkins passed out eight assists to go along with his 14 points.
UP NEXT: The Golden Knights will be on the road next Tuesday, November 20, to face "Upstate Challenge" rival Le Moyne at 7:30 pm in Syracuse, NY. This will be the latest installment of the year-long series. Meanwhile, New Haven hosts a non-conference contest on Sunday, facing Queens in West Haven, CT at 4:00 pm.
