ALBANY – Four players ended the night in double-figures for The College of Saint Rose in an 83-69
Northeast-10 Conference win against visiting New Haven earlier this evening at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The game marked the conference-opener for both squads.
The Golden Knights (3-0/1-0 NE-10) shot an efficient 56.1 percent from the field for the game, as freshman forward
Tyler Sayre enjoyed his best performance thus far in his young collegiate career. Sayre scored a game-high 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting and grabbed six boards. Another new face to the squad also enjoyed his best night in a Saint Rose uniform. Junior guard
Dan Mundweiler recorded nine points and dished out nine assists compared to only one turnover. Junior center
Dominykas Milka recorded his second “double-double” of the year behind 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior guard Justin Exum led the Chargers (0-2/0-1 NE-10) with 22 points as he connected for five 3-pointers. Sophomore forward Eric Anderson and junior guard Jeffery Adkins each tallied 16 points. Anderson hauled in 10 rebounds and Adkins passed out six assists as well.
Milka scored 11 of the Golden Knights' first 20 points in the opening eight minutes. Saint Rose also went 7-of-8 from the free throw line as well 4-of-5 from beyond the arc to create a 10-point, 41-31, halftime lead. Mundweiler managed to beat the buzzer with a 3-pointer from about 35-feet away to make it a double-digit affair.
Heading into the locker room, Milka completed the first stanza behind 13 points and six rebounds. Senior guard
Andre Pope contributed seven of 14 points in the opening half while Mundweiler had six points and five assists. Exum kept the Chargers in striking distance with 12 points, going 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
New Haven whittled away at its deficit in the early going of the second half. The Chargers got to within a point, 56-55, with 9:26 remaining after senior guard Jeremy Williams hit a jumper
. However, that was as close as it got as freshman guard Chris Dorgler knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Golden Knights an 11-point, 71-60, lead with 4:15 left.
Ahead on the docket for Saint Rose will be a trip to “Upstate Challenge” series rival Le Moyne. The next installment in the year-long series takes place Tuesday, November 20, in Syracuse at 7:30 pm. New Haven meanwhile returns home for a non-conference date against Queens College this Sunday, November 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm in West Haven, CT.
