SAINT ROSE UNABLE TO PUT AWAY STONEHILL

Sophomore forward Dominykas Milka poured in 22 points on 11-of-13 shooting to lead Saint Rose
Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team was outscored 14-4 over the final 5:51 as visiting Stonehill College completed its comeback bid to defeat the Golden Knights 63-59 in a Northeast-10 Conference meeting today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Skyhawks snapped a two-game skid in the process, while Saint Rose remained winless at home (0-4).

Sophomore forward Dominykas Milka provided a major spark for the Golden Knights (1-12/1-8 NE-10) with 22 points, on 11-of-13 shooting, and seven rebounds in 33 minutes of reserve duty. Senior guard Rob Gutierrez filled up the box score to the tune of 13 points, seven boards and four assists as well.

Stonehill (9-4/6-3 NE-10) was led by junior guard Brian Hamor who led all scorers with 23 points. Meanwhile, fellow junior guard Adam Fazzin contributed 15 points in 25 minutes of reserve action before fouling out with 2:06 to play.

The Skyhawks initially jumped out to an 8-0 lead just more than four minutes in after Saint Rose misfired on its first five shots. Stonehill never let the Golden Knights get closer than four throughout the opening frame until Gutierrez ignited an impressive 18-5 run that turned a nine point deficit into a 33-29 lead at the break. Guttierez drained a pair of free throws in the final minute to cap things.

Saint Rose led virtually the entire second half and was still up six, 55-49, after Gutierrez fed Milka at the 5:51 mark. It was at that point the Skyhawks regained their composure and thus closed with 14 of the game's final 18 points. Junior forward Raheem May-Thompson converted a layup as he was fouled and then buried the ensuing free throw to provide Stonehill with its first lead since the 2:37 mark of the first period, 57-55. Hamor put things away by burying four consecutive free throws over the final 23 seconds.

The Skyhawks outscored the Golden Knights by a 34-26 margin in the second stanza on the strength of 57.1 percent (12-for-21) shooting from the floor. They furthermore limited Saint Rose to just 39.3 percent (11-for-28) shooting and generated 11 points off seven turnovers while committing only four miscues of their own.

Both teams return to league action Wednesday night with a pair of 7:30 pm dates. The Golden Knights are set to welcome Southern New Hampshire University to Albany, while Stonehill heads to Assumption College.
