SAINT ROSE USES A BALANCED ATTACK TO HOLD OFF MERRIMACK

Freshman guard Gabie Polce had season-highs of 17 points and nine assists to lead the Golden Knights past Merrimack tonight.
Box Score NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The College Saint Rose held off a late Merrimack charge and put four players in double-figures scoring for the second time this year en route to a 68-62 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack this evening. The Golden Knights generated 18 points off of 21 turnovers by the Warriors and led throughout the final 38 minutes.

Saint Rose (10-6/7-5 NE-10) scored seven unanswered points during the opening two and a half minutes of the second period that transformed a 36-31 lead at the break into a 43-31 cushion. Merrimack (3-12/2-10 NE-10) refused to go away though and was within a bucket on two occasions during the final five minutes.

Junior forward Maria Sanchez Gonzalez answered with a jumper from the left corner that made it a two possession game, 65-60, with 59 seconds remaining and then freshman guard Gabie Polce sealed it by going three-for-four from the foul line in the final 30 seconds.

Polce wound up with season-highs of 17 points and nine assists, with only one turnover, to pace the Golden Knights. Sanchez also had a season-best of 12 points to go along with eight rebounds; while senior guards Ashley Rath and Ola Shajuyigbe added 13 and 10 points respectively.
