GOLDEN KNIGHTS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AT MERRIMACK

Senior guard Rob Gutierrez had 16 points and three assists in tonight's setback at NE-10 rival Merrimack.
Box Score NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 19 point, second half deficit only to fall 63-56 to host Merrimack in a Northeast-10 Conference contest tonight. It marked the 12th loss by less than 10 points for Saint Rose this season.

The Warriors shot 51.2 percent (22-for-43) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (7-for-14) from the arc, to overcome 17 turnovers that the Golden Knights manufactured into 16 points.

Saint Rose (2-14/2-10 NE-10) scored nine unanswered points to pull within three, 55-52, after senior guard Rob Gutierrez finished a fast break following his own steal. However, back-to-back layups by senior guards Roland Davis and Wayne Mack coupled with four straight empty trips for the Golden Knights left little doubt about the final outcome.

Gutierrez and junior guard Andre Pope tossed in 16 points each, while senior forward Sheldon Griffin added eight points and five rebounds, and also tied his career-high with three steals to lead Saint Rose.

Mack led four double-digit Merrimack (8-8/5-7 NE-10) scorers with 16 points and five assists. Senior guard Wilfredo Pagan tossed in 14 points in 20 minutes off the bench thanks to 4-for-4 shooting from 3-point territory, while junior forwards Tyler Young and Mike Clifford added 10 points each and pulled down 15 rebounds collectively.

Looking ahead, both squads return to the hardwood for 3:30 pm conference dates Saturday. The Golden Knights will host Saint Michael's, while the Warriors will head to Springfield to take on American International.
