NEWARK, NJ – The College of Saint Rose suffered an 11-5 non-conference setback in its 2011 season-opener today at Bloomfield College. The Deacons broken open a 5-2 ballgame game by pushing across five runs in the seventh against the Golden Knights (0-1) who used three freshmen pitchers at West Side Park.

Michael Carbone went 3-for-4 with a run scoring triple in the third and a two-run home run in the eighth to lead Saint Rose. Freshman left fielder
Nikko Wahl drew three walks and scored twice.
Meanwhile, senior third baseman Christian Rosa went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Deacons (2-5) who pounded out 16 hits.
Looking ahead, both teams begin their annual spring trek to Florida on Saturday. The Golden Knights head to Nova Southeastern for a noon doubleheader in Fort Lauderdale, while the Deacons have a 10:00 am date versus Mercyhurst in West Palm Beach.
