SAINT ROSE REMAINS PERFECT AT HOME

Saint Rose took part in the Take A Kid to the Game© program today which allowed the area youth to attend today's game free of charge
Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team held visiting Bloomfield College to just 27.7 percent (18-for-65) shooting from the floor on the way to a 69-54 non-conference victory today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights remained unbeaten at home (6-0) and capped off their 2011-12 non-league slate in the process.

Saint Rose took part in the Take A Kid to the Game© program today as well. The College is one of more than 200 schools across the nation that are hosting a game in this campaign, which is focused on allowing youth the opportunity to attend college games at no charge. The Take A Kid to the Game© program is entering its 16th year in the promotion of collegiate athletics.

Senior guards Ashley Rath and Ola Shajuyigbe paved the way for Saint Rose (8-3) this afternoon. Rath finished with 24 points and five rebounds, while Shajuyigbe added 21 points, six boards and three steals.

Senior guard Emily Hall was one of three players in twin-figures for the Lady Deacons (3-7) with 24 points. Senior guard Vanessa Lamison contributed 13 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward Shaniqua Bacote pitched in 10 points and eight caroms off the bench.

Both squads had trouble getting out of the gate after nearly a two-week layoff since their last outings. Regardless, the Golden Knights assumed control by outscoring Bloomfield 16-4 over the final 9:25 to take a 32-23 lead at the break. Saint Rose limited the Lady Deacons to just two field goals and forced five turnovers during that span.

Hall initially provided Bloomfield with a 19-16 edge after going 1-for-2 from the stripe. Both clubs went scoreless over the next three minutes until Rath and Shajuyigbe converted back-to-back buckets. Rath put the finishing touches on the spurt with a 3-pointer in the final minute.

The Golden Knights put things out of reach with a 19-8 surge to start the second period. Senior forward Ali Johnson got things going with a layup and then Shajuyigbe completed a conventional 3-point play. Rath struck for 11 of the next 14 Saint Rose points to provide a 51-31 margin with 12:20 to go.

Looking ahead, both teams return to their respective league schedules Tuesday evening. The Golden Knights head to Saint Anselm College for a 5:30 pm tip-off in Manchester, NH. Meanwhile, the Lady Deacons return home to host Nyack College at 6:00 pm.
