Biography

ABOUT JOHNSON: Coming off a breakout season…Excellent post defender…Superlative rebounder…Can finish with either hand around the basket…Can also shoot the mid-range jumper…Strong, fit and is once again expected to add scoring power in the paint.

AS A JUNIOR: Led the Golden Knights and was fourth in the conference in blocks (1.59 bpg)…Also second on the team in rebounding (6.3 rpg) and third in scoring (9.9 ppg)…Shot a team-high 49.8 percent (105-for-211) from the floor, which represented the ninth-best percentage in the league…Made a career-high 28 starts…Hit double-figures in scoring 13 times, including four straight to close out the year…Finished one shy of her career-high with 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor in a 70-60 win versus then #13 Bentley (1/26/11)…Filled up the box score with 19 points, nine rebounds, a career-best five assists and three blocks in a 67-59 loss at Bentley (3/4/11) in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament…Had a “double-double” behind 14 points and 15 caroms (career-high) in a 44-37 loss at Stonehill (1/29/11)…Tossed in 18 points on the strength of a 7-for-7 effort from the field in a 67-60 overtime victory against Pace (3/1/11)…Named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll on two occasions (1/31/11 & 2/14/11)…Named to both the fall and spring NE-10 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls in recognition of academic excellence.

AS A SOPHOMORE: Finished in the top-15 in the league in field goal percentage, blocks and rebounding…Led the team by shooting 51.9 percent (111-for-214) from the floor, which was fifth in the conference…Averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds in a career-high 25.8 minutes of action…Started 26 of the 27 games she played in…Paced the Golden Knights with 35 blocks…Scored a career-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting in a 78-67 win at Pace (2/13/10)…Registered four “double-doubles” on the year…Hauled in a career-best 12 boards to go along with 18 points in a 57-41 victory over Saint Michael’s (1/6/10)…Buried 8-of-10 shots from the stripe on the way to 12 points and six caroms in a 64-59 win at New Haven (2/17/10)…Wound up in double-figures scoring on 16 occasions…Filled up the box score with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three blocks in a 71-56 triumph versus Stonehill (1/30/10)…Named to both the fall and spring NE-10 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls.

AS A FRESHMAN: Played in 18 games…Averaged 1.3 points and 1.7 rebounds in 8.0 minutes of reserve action…Scored her first points in a Saint Rose uniform in the regular-season finale when she tossed in 15 points and grabbed nine boards in a 75-61 win at Saint Anselm (2/24/09)…Hit 6-of-12 attempts from the floor and went 3-for-5 at the stripe throughout a season-high 23 minutes against the Hawks…Registered at least one block in four of the last five games to close out the season…Named to the NE-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL: Team captain as a senior…Liberty District honorable-mention pick…Led the Statesmen in rebounding as a senior…Member of the 2007 squad that captured the Liberty District Championship and made an appearance in the Regional Final Four…Played for Noel Klippenstein.

GENERAL: Enters the 2011-12 campaign ranked eighth all-time in school annals in shooting percentage (.489) and 10th in blocks (85)…Has a sister, Kaitlyn, who played basketball at St. Mary’s College of Maryland…Enjoys reading and traveling in her spare time…Favorite movie is “The Little Mermaid” and favorite food is lasagna…Best sports moments were winning the Pennsylvania State Championship with her AAU club LL Hoops and playing in the 2009 NCAA Tournament...Listed Lance Armstrong as the athlete she admires most…Dean’s List student...Aspires to attend law school following her Saint Rose career.

COACH HAAG ON JOHNSON: “Ali is so tough to defend in the post. She finishes at the rim with both hands and has the ability to be a dominant force for us. She gives great help side defense and has proven to be a solid shot blocker. Ali runs the floor well for her size and our hope is that we can keep her healthy throughout the season.”
