GOLDEN KNIGHTS TAKE OUT UNBEATEN PACE 75-64

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team jumped out to a 15-point lead at the break and never looked back as the Golden Knights upended visiting Pace University 75-64 in a Northeast-10 Conference game today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. In the process, Saint Rose gave the Setters their first blemish of the 2011-12 season.

Senior guard Ashley Rath led a balanced attack for the Golden Knights (6-1/4-1 NE-10), who placed five players in double-figures scoring for the first time all year. Rath wound up with 17 points and five assists, while classmate Ola Shajuyigbe was right behind her with 15 points.

Additionally, junior forward Emily Trapp tossed in a career-high 12 points, while senior forwards Ali Johnson and Alison McGrath added 11 points apiece.

Pace senior forward Brittany Shields led all players with 23 points to go along with eight boards. Meanwhile, senior guard Carol Johnson contributed 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Saint Rose jumped out to an eight point lead in the early going after Johnson finished off a feed from Shajuyigbe that made it 12-4. However, the Setters (5-1/4-1 NE-10) reeled off a 9-0 run to grab a 13-12 lead with 11:26 on the clock. The two clubs traded baskets over the next minute, but Johnson finished in the paint again to provide the Golden Knights with a 16-15 lead they would not relinquish.

After walking into the locker room up 41-26, Saint Rose was still in control by double-digits with 5:17 left. Sheilds converted a layup to make it a 62-53 ballgame and Pace cut its deficit to nine twice over the final five minutes. However, the Golden Knights proved their mettle by converting 4-of-6 field goal attempts and burying 5-of-6 shots from the charity stripe the rest of the way.

Saint Rose furthermore helped its cause by shooting a season-high 54.8 percent (23-for-42) from the floor in the contest. They Golden Knights also generated a 25-9 margin from the free throw line as well.

Looking ahead, both squads return to action Tuesday night with a pair of 5:30 league games on tap. The Golden Knights head to Assumption College, while Pace returns home to host Adelphi University.
