THE PLOT: The College of Saint Rose and Pace University meet today in a battle of former New York Collegiate Athletic Conference rivals. The Golden Knights are going for their first win of the year, while the Setters are looking to smap a nine-game skid in Albany.

LAST MEETING: Saint Rose held off a late charge by visiting Pace University to preserve a 64-59 victory against the Setters last February 12 at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights broke open a tight 43-43 ballgame with a little more than 10 minutes to play behind a 13-4 run that covered a six and a half minute span. Senior forward Brian Hanuschak and junior guard Andre Pope converted back-to-back layups to get things going. Pope then buried a pair of free throws and Shea Bromirsk added a jumper off of his own steal that made it a 56-47 affair with 3:42 left.

Pace refused to go away behind a 12-4 spurt of its own to get back to within a point, 60-59, with 27 seconds on the clock. However, senior guard Rob Gutierrez drained four in a row from the line in the waning moments for Saint Rose.

Gutierrez led the Golden Knights with 17 points and eight boards. Bromirski finished with 16 points, while Pope filled up the box score with 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Junior forward Keon Williams topped all scorers with 23 points to lead the Setters. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Denzel Primus-Devonish added 16 points and six assists.

LAST TIME OUT: Saint Rose roared back from an early 22 point deficit to get back to within a point, but could not get over the final hurdle in a 60-56 loss at Adelphi Wednesday evening on Long Island.

Sophomore forward Jin Hong had career-highs of 16 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench for the Golden Knights. Senior forward Brian Hanuschak wound up with 11 points and four boards as the lone other player in twin figures. In the process, Hanuschak became just the12th player in school annals to register 600 career rebounds.

Meanwhile, junior guard Cliff Brown paced four players in double-figures scoring for the Panthers. Brown wound up with 13 points thanks in part to a 3-for-4 shooting effort from the arc.
