GOLDEN KNIGHTS HAVE ANOTHER CLOSE ONE GET AWAY

Junior guard Andre Pope scored 19 points in today's setback to Molloy at the Adelphi Holiday Tournament..
Box Score GARDEN CITY, NY –The College of Saint Rose rebounded from a 12 point halftime deficit only to be held to a field goal throughout the final 5:37 that allowed Molloy to walk away with a 74-72 victory at the Adelphi Holiday Tournament this afternoon. The Golden Knights (1-9) have now suffered six losses by 18 total points this season.

Junior guard Andre Pope tossed in 19 points and hauled in six rebounds to go with four assists for Saint Rose. Sophomore guard Kareem Thomas wound up with 13 points, on 6-for-10 shooting from the floor, and five rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench; while senior forward Sheldon Griffin finished with 12 points and seven boards.

Molloy shot a blistering 55.2 percent (16-for-29) from the field in the first half to take a 44-32 lead at the break. The Golden Knights came out of the locker room and meticulously cut into their deficit. Pope drained a pair of free throws that tied the contest, 59-59, with 8:33 remaining and brought the Golden Knights even for the first time since the game's opening moments.

Three minutes later, sophomore center Dominykas Milka canned a pair of free throws and Thomas finished in the paint to cap a 19-6 Saint Rose jaunt that put the Golden Knights on top 67-61 with 5:37 showing on the clock. However, Saint Rose went cold from the floor that allowed the Lions (4-6) to get back in the ballgame.

Junior guard Jimmy Nolan nailed a jumper, fellow junior guard Chris Lyons hit a pair of free throws, and senior center Dariel Concha finished in the paint that put Molloy back out front, 69-67, with 2:58 remaining.

Pope answered at the other end with a 3-pointer to afford Saint Rose what turned out to be its last lead, 70-69, with 2:30 left, before Nolan drained a trey to make it 72-70 Molloy with 1:08 to go. Nolan then missed the second of two free throws with 11 ticks left that kept it a two-point ballgame, but Pope's 3-pointer from the top of the key was deflected and a putback by senior guard Rob Gutierrez was ruled to fall in after the buzzer had sounded.

Sophomore guard John Petrucelli tossed in 24 points and Nolan scored 21 as the pair combined to shoot 16-for-28 from the floor for the Lions.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will hit the hardwood again tomorrow for the final day of action at the Adelphi Holiday Tournament. Saint Rose will meet Dominican at 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Molloy will take on host Adelphi at 4:30 pm.
