SAINT ROSE RALLY FALLS SHORT AT C.W. POST

Box Score BROOKEVILLE, NY –The College of Saint Rose made a furious second half rally, but could not overcome a 29-12 first period deficit in a 59-50 setback at C.W. Post this evening. The Golden Knights were hurt by 47.6 percent (10-for-21) shooting from the line, whereas the Pioneers (6-4) canned 81.8 percent (18-for-22) of their chances from the stripe.

Senior guard Ashley Rath and freshman guard Gabie Polce led the Golden Knights (7-3). Rath tossed in 15 points, while Polce tied her season-high of 14 points to go with five assists. Senior guard Ola Shajuyigbe added 10 points and senior forward Ali Johnson finished with seven points and 14 rebounds.

The Golden Knights scored the final six points of the opening stanza to go in the locker room down 11, 29-18, at intermission. Initially, they led 10-9 after Polce went 1-for-2 from the stripe at the 15:20 mark. C.W. Post then took off on a 20-2 run that made it a 17 point ballgame after junior center Nicolette Marciniak finished in the paint with 4:37 to go.

Saint Rose managed to get to within one on three occasions throughout the final 10 minutes, but could not get over the final hurdle. Polce converted a pair of layups that made it 40-39 and 42-41 with 9:00 remaining and Rath scored inside a minute later that made it 44-43. C.W. Post finally closed it out by going 5-for-6 from the foul line throughout the final minute.

Senior guard Felicia Joyner had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Marciniak finished with 15 points and nine boards as well to lead the Pioneers. Freshman guard Chelsea Williams contributed 17 points to the balanced attack.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have 14 days off until they return to action with a 12:00 pm non-conference home game versus Bloomfield on Friday, December 30. It will be “Take A Kid To The Game Day” where youths 12-years-old and younger will be admitted free with the purchase of a full-priced ($5.00) adult ticket. Meanwhile, C.W. Post gets right back to action with a 1:30 pm home date versus Bentley this Sunday.
