SPRINGFIELD, MA – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team was handed identical 3-1 losses this evening throughout its first two matches at the Northeast-Mid Atlantic Invitational that is being held on the campus of American International College. The Golden Knights fell 25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 20-25 to East Stroudsburg in the first match of the night and then dropped a 25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 22-25 decision versus Dominican.
Against the Warriors (1-4), junior outside hitter
Sarah Kahrs fell one shy of her career high with 17 digs to go along with 11 kills and four blocks to pace Saint Rose (1-5). Senior middle hitter
Kelly Ryan continued her solid all-around play up front by contributing eight blocks and six kills. Meanwhile, freshman defensive specialist
Christina Strezenec picked up 18 digs from the back row.
In tonight's finale against the Chargers (2-5), Ryan and Strezenec again played major roles. Ryan finished with 14 kills and nine blocks, while Strezenec came up with a season-high 31 digs.
Additionally for the Golden Knights, junior middle hitter
Chelsea Tyler registered nine kills and four blocks and junior setter
Theresa Staulo handed out 35 assists.
Saint Rose is scheduled to complete its stay in Springfield tomorrow with two more matches on tap. The Golden Knights meet 2009 NCAA participant Lock Haven at 10:00 am before matching up against Wilmington (DE) at 2:00 pm.
