BATCHELDER THROWS ANOTHER GEM TO LEAD SAINT ROSE PAST AMERICAN INT'L

Junior left-hander David Batchelder fanned a career-high 10 batters over the distance in today's 7-0 victory at American International.
SPRINGFIELD, MA  – The College of Saint Rose pushed across three runs in the second inning, which proved to be more than enough for junior left-hander David Batchelder who again was on top of his game in today's 7-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory at American International.

Batchelder scattered five hits over the distance and fanned a career-high 10 batters en route to his team-leading fifth win of the year. Batchelder furthermore allowed only one runner into scoring position, and that was not until the eighth inning. He has now given up only three earned runs throughout his last six appearances that cover 45.2 innings of work. In the meantime, he lowered his ERA to 1.78.

Sophomore right fielder Nick Alexandrovich provided all the help Batchelder needed when he drove a three run double to the gap in left-center in the second. Junior third baseman Ryan Burke then had a two run single in the ninth.

The Golden Knights (14-28/8-15 NE-10) picked up their other pair of runs in the fourth when sophomore shortstop Jesse Burba slapped a base hit through the right side with runners at the corners. Alexandrovich then came across home plate before Burba got tagged out while in run a down during a double-steal attempt.

Sophomore second baseman Michael Carbone also had a big day at the plate for Saint Rose. Carbone finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Meanwhile, junior center fielder Mike Tranghese went 2-for-4 to lead the American International (6-28/3-20 NE-10) offense.

Looking ahead, these two teams are scheduled to conclude their two-game season series tomorrow at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
