FRANKLIN PIERCE ROLLS PAST SAINT ROSE 17-5

Freshman second baseman Michael Carbone
ALBANY – Franklin Pierce University bunched together 17 hits and won its fourth straight in a 17-5 Northeast-10 Conference victory over The College of Saint Rose baseball team at Bleecker Stadium this afternoon. Furthermore, the Ravens took the 10th straight meeting between the two clubs.

Franklin Pierce (11-11/4-2 NE-10) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on a pair of sacrifice flies. Sophomore shortstop Jose Macias led things off with a single to left before two walks were issued to sophomore designated hitter Derek Ingui and freshman catcher Mike Dowd. Junior left fielder Kevin Rivers and graduate center fielder Cliff Hicks promptly lifted the ball to the outfield in their at-bats to plate Macias and Ingui.

The fourth proved to be the deciding factor for the Ravens. They pieced together six runs on four hits via a two-run double by Ingui, a two-run single by Dowd and finally a two-run shot by Rivers that made it an 8-0 ballgame.

The Golden Knights (7-16/3-6 NE-10) managed to get two back in the fifth when freshman second baseman Michael Carbone laced a two-run single to left field. However, Franklin Pierce pushed across eight more runs in the sixth and seventh to give itself a commanding edge.

Rivers wound up going 5-for-5 with four RBI and three runs as eight Ravens' starters had a hit in the contest. Meanwhile, Ingui went 2-for-3 with four runs, three RBI and two walks and Dowd finished 2-for-3 with three runs and a like number of RBI.

Saint Rose junior center fielder Ryan Price registered a 2-for-4 effort with a run to pace the Golden Knights. Senior first baseman Paul Partridge provided another spark with a two-run homer in the eighth and Carbone went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Saint Rose will have a couple days off before returning to its league slate Saturday afternoon when the Golden Knights host Saint Anselm College for a 12:00 pm NE-10 twin-bill. Franklin Pierce will step out of conference Saturday afternoon with it entertains Saint Michael's College in a 1:00 pm non-league doubleheader.
