LANTANA, FL – The College of Saint Rose suffered a 9-7 setback to Southern Connecticut State in its 2009 Northeast-10 Conference opener today in which Saint Rose forfeited a traditional home date. The game also brought closure to the Golden Knights (4-10/0-1 NE-10) annual spring trek through Florida.

The visiting Owls (4-4/1-0 NE-10) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, added three more in the fourth and then pushed across what held up as the winning run in the eighth.

Junior outfielder Ryan Price and sophomore outfielder Garret Keenan both went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Golden Knights attack. Also, sophomore outfielder Angel Nunez belted a three-run homer in the third to cut the Saint Rose 4-0 deficit to a run.

Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut State are scheduled to conclude their two-game NE-10 series with a 3:30 pm date Tuesday in New Haven.
