ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose held visiting Saint Anselm to eight second half field goals and used a 20-4 run at the 18-minute mark to chalk up a 78-66 Northeast-10 Conference victory this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Senior guard
Dana Brown led four-players in double-figures scoring for the Golden Knights (14-8/9-8 NE-10) who have now won five of their last six and improved to 7-3 at home on the year. Senior center
Lauren Revesz tossed in 16 points, all in the first half, while senior forward
Ashley Anderson and sophomore guard
Lynsey Timbrouck both filled up the box score. Anderson finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists; while Timbrouck contributed 10 points, five boards, seven assists and four steals.
After Saint Anselm (4-18/2-15 NE-10) freshman forward Megan Howard converted a layup to tie the game for the tenth and final time, 43-43, with 17:49 remaining, Timbrouck ignited the Saint Rose jaunt with a layup. Brown then buried a pair of free throws, finished a fast break and knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 59-45 Saint Rose with 11:56 left. Four minutes later, junior guard
Elizabeth Buckley canned a triple that afforded the Golden Knights an 18 point, 65-47, advantage. Saint Anselm was only able to get within 10 points after both teams had cleared their benches in the final two minutes.
The first half was much more of a see-saw affair. The Golden Knights owned a 40-39 lead following an opening period that featured seven ties and four lead changes. Saint Rose shot a blistering 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the floor, but coughed the ball up 12 times that the visiting Hawks turned into 17 points.
Howard wound up with 16 points and seven rebounds in just 22 minutes of action due to foul trouble to lead Saint Anselm. Sophomore guard Jennifer Gureckis also had 16 points, while junior forward Courtney May registered a “double-double” behind 10 points and 11 boards. Finally, junior guard Justine Lyons tossed in 13 points off the bench.
As part of its ongoing community service efforts, the College donated more than $3,400 from today's paid admission towards the fight against cancer. The proceeds will be divided equally among
