SAINT ROSE KNOCKS OFF BENTLEY 80-76

Senior guard Dana Brown
WALTHAM, MA – Senior guard Dana Brown nailed a jumper with 16 seconds to play and put the finishing touches on the third straight victory for The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team by knocking down a pair of free throws in the waning moments to preserve an 80-76 win at Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley University this afternoon.

The Falcons (16-10/12-7 NE-10), who defeated the Golden Knights (16-8/11-8 NE-10) 66-58 in Albany back on December 8, came into today's contest ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings and in a three-way tie for third in the conference standings. Saint Rose has now won seven of its last eight games as it continues to mold its NCAA Tournament resume with three regular-season contests remaining on the docket.

It was a see-saw battle all afternoon at the Dana Center with 10 ties and 11 lead changes alone in the second period. The Golden Knights actually trailed by three, 75-72, with 2:04 to play when Brown and senior forward Ashley Anderson took matters into their own hands. Anderson converted a feed from Brown in the lane to cut the Saint Rose deficit to one and then buried a pair of free throws just over a minute later to knot things at 76-76.

On the ensuing Bentley possession, sophomore guard Kim Brennan had the ball stolen away by Golden Knights' sophomore guard Amy Voelkel to give Saint Rose a chance to take the lead. Brown made the most of that opportunity by burying a jumper that was set up by Anderson. Brennan was unable to connect on a game-tying layup at the other end and Brown made it a two possession game by knocking down a pair from the stripe with five seconds on the clock.

Senior center Lauren Revesz led all scorers with 26 points to go with four boards and three assists to pace the Golden Knights. Anderson finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and four helpers, while junior guard Elizabeth Buckley also found twin-figures with 11 points.

Bentley senior guard Kristy McLean nearly missed a “double-double” with 22 points and nine caroms. McLean did however become the 29th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points after entering the game just 15 points shy of the plateau. Brennan contributed 19 points and six assists as well.

Both clubs are scheduled to return to action Wednesday night in a pair of NE-10 contests. Saint Rose will host Merrimack College in its final regular-season home game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm, with four seniors on the roster being honored prior to the opening tip. Meanwhile, the Falcons will travel to Southern Connecticut State Wednesday for a 5:30 pm league affair.
