REVESZ RALLIES GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT IN OT

Senior center Lauren Revesz
NEW HAVEN, CT – The College of Saint Rose rebounded from a second half, double digit deficit for the second straight game en route to a 63-57 overtime victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State this afternoon. Saint Rose has now won three straight, while the host Owls (5-14/2-12 NE-10), who had only seven players dressed, dropped their seventh straight.

Senior center Lauren Revesz scored 23 of her career-high tying 28 points after halftime, including all eight for the Golden Knights (12-7/7-7 NE-10) in overtime to lead the effort. Earlier, Revesz and senior guard Dana Brown canned back-to-back 3-pointers from the top of the key in the final 40 seconds of regulation to force overtime.

Brown was the lone other Saint Rose player in double-figures with 13 points and a season-high six assists, while senior forward Ashley Anderson had six points and tied her career-high with 16 rebounds.

It looked as if this one would go Southern Connecticut's way for most of the day. The Owls owned an 11 point, 52-41, lead with 5:51 left and were up at least seven points throughout the first 14 minutes of the second stanza. However, Revesz began asserting herself in the paint to lead the Golden Knights back. She converted a layup to ignite an 8-1 run that sophomore guard Lynsey Timbrouck capped by finishing off a steal by sophomore forward Amy Voelkel that made it a 53-49 affair.

Sophomore guard Logan Lentz then scored inside to push the Southern Connecticut lead back to six, but then Brown and Revesz came through from long range to deadlock the game for the first time since the midway point of the opening period. The Owls had one last look, but junior forward Jacqueline Johannes' 15-jumper rattled off the front rim.

Senior guard Allyson Smith had 20 points via 8-for-10 shooting, and Lentz wound up with 16 points and six assists to pace the Owls.

Saint Rose went into the locker room down 28-22 at intermission mostly due to a 1-for-5 effort from 3-point land and a 1-for-2 total from the foul line. Conversely, Southern Connecticut State went 3-for-5 from long range and 5-for-7 from the line. The Owls extended an 18-17 lead at the 5:50 mark by scoring seven unanswered points that afforded them a 25-17 margin, before Saint Rose got late buckets from Revesz and Anderson to pull within six.

Saint Rose has a week off before returning home next Saturday to host NE-10 rival Pace University. Tip-off is set for 1:30 pm as part of Athletic Academic Recognition Day, which is being presented by Johnson Illington Advisors. Meanwhile, Southern Connecticut State heads to Pace for a 5:30 pm date Wednesday.
