ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team is poised to begin its 2022 season this evening with a 6:00 pm home match versus Mercy College. The Golden Knights will also be home Saturday with a 6:00 pm date against Caldwell University.

Saint Rose will be under the direction of first year head coach
Steve Wieczorek, who has led three programs to NCAA Tournament berths.

The Golden Knights closed out the 2021 campaign by winning nine of their last 11 contests, while tying a school record set in 2019 with 10 victories. They also recorded their best ever season in Northeast-10 Conference play, going 8-3-1 and earning the third seed in the postseason tournament.

Saint Rose advanced with a 3-2, double overtime quarterfinal victory versus Le Moyne before falling 1-0 in a semifinal at then #23 American International.

Among the returnees are a pair of 2021 All-Conference performers in junior midfielder
Josh Elliott who led the team with seven goals, along with sophomore back
Victor Boje Henriksen who had six. Junior back
Nick Koenig also garnered All-League accolades. He finished with four strikes and an assist.

Overall, quality players throughout the lineup and roster, along with outstanding leadership highlighted by captains and senior midfielders
Harry Soederlind and
Andrew Lule, and Koenig, stand out for the team.

Simon Schouby, along with fifth-year midfielder
Kevin Winglosky should again have prominent roles.

The aforementioned group is part of an experienced contingent that features 19 returnees, who are joined by a like number of newcomers.
