NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- Junior forward Tyler Sayre totaled 25 points and eight rebounds on Wednesday night, but The College of Saint Rose could not keep pace with host Merrimack, falling 87-70 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup.
 
Saint Rose (7-10/5-6 NE-10) went 1-for-8 and turned the ball over three times in the first six minutes, but played solid defense and trailed by just five midway through the opening half.
 
Merrimack (10-8/5-7) then used a 10-2 run to push its lead to 15 at 28-13 with 6:31 to go. The Warriors shot 41.2 percent in the first 20 minutes and held a 35-23 advantage at the break.
 
The Golden Knights made several runs to trim the lead in the second half, and got within seven points on a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Mical-Ryan Boyd at 11:03. However, Merrimack followed with consecutive 3-point buckets to keep Saint Rose at arm's length for the remainder of the contest.
 
Sophomore forward Julian Lipinski scored 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds, while Boyd finished with 13 points.
 
Senior forward James Kennedy paced the Warriors with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return to Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium on Saturday, January 23 to take on Saint Michael's at 3:30 p.m. in the second half of a home doubleheader.
