Last Meeting (9/3/11): Mercy scored a pair of goals within the final 11 minutes to hand Saint Rose a heartbreaking 2-1 setback on this pitch. Zak Duguay afforded the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead midway through the opening half on the second day of action in the Saint Rose Tournament. Ernest Afful struck with the equalizer in the 79th minute. The Mavericks then took advantage of the momentum shift when senior midfielder Collin Legge unleashed a liner from 10-yards out that whistled inside the far-right post. Patrik Ohlsson came up with three saves, while Mercy junior Nick Papas was forced to turn aside five shots to keep the Mavericks within striking distance.
Â
Scouting Saint Rose (0-0): Saint Rose comes into this season aiming to make its second Northeast-10 Conference Championship appearance within the past three years. Senior
Colan Balkwell is expected to handle the majority of the goalkeeping duties while senior
Tyler Pomakoy, an All-Conference pick a year ago, and sophomore
Nathan Brown head up the back line. Senior
Marco Pavlin, the team's leading scorer who manufactured nine points in 2014, and classmate
Massimo Smiroldo return to their central midfield roles while senior
Nick Iuorno and
Joshua Hanif are expected to once again be factors on the outside. Up top, two newcomers in freshman
Ryan Rooney and sophomore
Romaine Williamson have the potential to turn some heads throughout the season.
Â
Scouting Mercy (0-0): The Mavericks missed the East Coast Conference playoffs last season after qualifying in both 2012 and 2013. Junior Luis Lizarzaburu recorded 65 saves throughout 13 starts between the posts. Graduate midfielder Juan Gatti is the top returning offensive threat. Gatti wound up with 10 points behind a pair of goals and six assists.
