GOLDEN KNIGHTS CHALK UP WILD DOUBLE OVERTIME WIN

ALBANY-Senior attack Evan Helming scored with 20 seconds left in the second overtime to lift The College of Saint Rose to a wild 10-9 victory versus Roberts Wesleyan today at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Also, senior goalie Nick Longo made four saves in the fifth and sixth periods, including a pair in the latter, to afford Saint Rose an opportunity to close out its 2015 home opener on a high note.

The game was close throughout with seven ties and six lead changes. Each squad won half of the 24 faceoff opportunities, while the Red Hawks (2-5), who upended Saint Rose (1-3) by an identical score in triple overtime a year ago in Rochester, engineered slight 39-37 shot, and 34-33 groundball differentials.

Helming finished with four goals while senior midfielders Kris Miller and Ryan McFee had two apiece. Also, freshman attack Matt Graham and junior midfielder Cameron Fischer each had a goal and an assist, while senior attack Colin Sorber set up a pair of strikes.

The contest actually stood deadlocked at each break. It was 3-3 after the first quarter, 5-5 at halftime, and 7-7 following the third. Roberts Wesleyan rebounded from a 2-0 deficit after Miller scored twice in the game's opening three minutes, while Saint Rose responded from being down 9-8 with 9:06 to go as McFee found the back of the net off a Fischer feed. The Golden Knights then withstood a pair of 30-second; man down situations throughout the rest of regulation to force extended play.

For the Red Hawks, junior attack Dom Cianfarano and sophomore attack Matt Benedict had a pair of goals and two assists, while sophomore midfielder Cody Lewis and junior midfielder Seth Miller each wound up with a goal and an assist.
