BALANCED EFFORT PUSHES GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST NE-10 RIVAL SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose had three players score three times and another set up three strikes en route to today's 12-8 victory against Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire on a cold, rain filled afternoon at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (2-3/1-1 NE-10) sandwiched four unanswered goals around halftime to take an 8-4 lead that they never relinquished to remain unbeaten at home.

Senior attack Kevin Fleming and senior midfielder Kris Miller registered five points each to pace the Saint Rose offense. Fleming finished with three goals and two assists, while Miller, who has at least two points in all five games to date, had a pair of strikes and set up three others. Senior attack Evan Helming and freshman midfielder Matt Graham also scored three times apiece, while senior midfielder Ryan McFee had a goal and an assist and senior attack Colin Sorber added a pair of helpers.

Also, senior goalie Nick Longo made eight saves and junior long stick midfielder Mike Balla was responsible for two of the Golden Knights nine caused turnovers.

The Penmen (1-3/1-2 NE-10) struck early to take a 2-0 lead six minutes into the contest, before Graham deadlocked it 2-2 after the first quarter with a pair of goals less than a minute apart. The contest was then tied 3-3 and 4-4 when Fleming ignited the Golden Knights 4-0 charge with a wrap-around shot behind his head that made it a 5-4 game with 5:22 to go until intermission. Fleming then set up Miller with 35 seconds left to afford the Golden Knights a two-goal halftime advantage.

McFee and Miller then struck 41 seconds apart with six minutes remaining in the third, but Southern New Hampshire dug in with three tallies to cut its deficit to 8-7 with 2:54 left. Helming and Fleming then countered to put Saint Rose back in control, 10-7, heading to the fourth.

The Penmen subsequently made it a 10-8 contest at the outset of the final quarter. However, Saint Rose withstood a six-shot Southern New Hampshire flurry at the four minute mark, while Fleming and Graham each found the back of the net to close out the day's scoring.

Junior attack Cameron Joyce had two goals and a like number of assists and senior attack Cory Allen also had a pair of goals to propel the Penmen, who entered the afternoon off a 10-9 setback at sixth-ranked and conference rival Merrimack. Furthermore, senior goalie Crosby Nicholson made eight of his 13 saves after halftime.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are on the road next Saturday, March 21, with a 1:00 pm conference date at Bentley in Waltham, MA. Meanwhile, Southern New Hampshire has a 3:00 pm non-league meeting this Tuesday at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
