Last meeting: The Warriors slipped past Saint Rose 62-57 in North Andover, Mass., nearly a year ago. The Golden Knights led by as much as 12 at one point, and held the lead until the 6:04 mark of the second half. Merrimack sank four free throws in a row to move ahead and never look back. Scouting Saint Rose (6-8, 3-6 NE-10): The Golden Knights have won two in a row, their longest streak this season, which included a pair of upsets over Northeast-10 Conference foes Assumption and Franklin Pierce. The Greyhounds had just received top-30 votes for the WBCA Coaches Poll before Saint Rose left Worcester, Mass., with a 62-58 win last Wednesday, handing Assumption only its third loss of the season. Jamie Hutcheson leads the Golden Knights on both sides of the ball with 11.1 points and 8.6 boards per-game. Hutcheson also leads in steals (24) and assists (47). Sophomore forward
Staci Barrett sits just behind in points per-game with 10.9, and ranks third in free throws with a .737 mark. Senior forward
Mariah Lesure ranks seventh in the conference in field goal percentage (51.7), while the Golden Knights post a .415 field goal percentage, and average 62.8 points per-game.
Scouting Merrimack (7-6, 2-6 NE-10): The Warriors have dropped two games in a row after winning five straight, falling to SNHU and Pace within the last week and a half. Merrimack's most recent loss was an 83-71 decision to Pace, a team that Saint Rose defeated 54-26 earlier this season. Rothman leads the Warriors with 15.5 points per-game, followed by senior forward Aria Johnson with 13.7 and a team-high 8.5 rebound average. Merrimack averages 73.9 points per game, and a .475 field goal percentage.
Next time out: Saint Rose remains at home on Saturday, but takes a break in its NE-10 schedule to host Georgian Court at 1:30 pm in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights hit the road next week for a league match up at Saint Michael's on Wednesday, followed by a return to the Capital District for a 1:30 pm meeting with Saint Anselm on Saturday, January 24.
