Junior midfielder Nick Iuorno put the Golden Knights up 1-0 in tonight's game versus New Haven.
Box Score
ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose opened the Northeast-10 Conference portion of its 2014 schedule on a high note with a 2-1 victory against New Haven tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. All three goals were scored in the first half as the Golden Knights (1-2-1/1-0-0 NE-10) tallied the game-winner with less than two minutes left until intermission after the Chargers (1-3-0/0-1-0 NE-10) had tied it with 31:48 gone by.

Saint Rose engineered an 8-3 shots-on-goal advantage, but New Haven developed a 6-4 corner kick differential, including a pair in the final three minutes that made for an intense finish.

Junior midfielder Marco Pavlin scored what held up as the game-winner when he stepped forward to intercept a New Haven transition out of the back. He then dribbled and ripped a shot from 35-yards out that sailed underneath the crossbar.

The Golden Knights previously struck with 24:03 elapsed when junior midfielder Massimo Smiroldo touched a pass onto the foot of senior back Jeff Kozlowski at the right corner. Kozlowski subsequently delivered a cross that junior midfielder Nick Iuorno got in the air to head into the left side of the net.

Seven minutes later, the Chargers tied it when sophomore midfielder Alain Laurent headed home a cross off the left sideline by sophomore back Brian Rebelo.

Between the posts, junior keeper Colan Balkwell made a pair saves for Saint Rose, while New Haven freshman Marc Scelsa turned aside five shots, including a penalty kick in the ninth minute.

The Golden Knights play their first road match of the year Saturday when they travel to Waltham, MA to face NE-10 rival Bentley. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, New Haven is also on the road Saturday. The Chargers will travel north for a 7:00 pm meeting at defending national champion Southern New Hampshire in Manchester.
