ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose dropped both ends of a Northeast-10 Conference twin-bill to Southern Connecticut State at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex this afternoon. The Owls (21-13/15-7 NE-10) won the first game 17-11 and took the finale 7-0 to run their win streak to six games.

In the opener, Southern Connecticut State batted around in both the fifth and sixth innings en route to the victory. Saint Rose junior catcher Lukas Nethaway belted a three-run homer over the left-center field fence in the third on the way to a 2-for-4, five RBI game. Sophomore center fielder Derek Reed and junior first baseman Zac Bellinger had three hits apiece to help the Golden Knights (13-26/9-13 NE-10) cause.

Junior first baseman Julian Sobin went 2-for-5 and drove in four runs for Southern Connecticut State, which jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first.

A  leadoff triple off the bat of senior left fielder Brian Maynard, a Reed RBI base hit, a two-run double by Bellinger, and an RBI groundout by sophomore third baseman Chad Adams followed by a Nethaway run scoring single yielded a five-run Saint Rose seventh. The Golden Knights then one in both the eighth and ninth.

In the finale, Southern Connecticut State senior right-hander Tyler Albrecht had a no hitter working into the eighth when sophomore catcher Patrick Griffin rolled a swinging bunt that just managed to stay inside third base line. An inning earlier, senior right fielder Kyle Holland kept the no-hitter in order by robbing Bellinger with a diving catch of a liner that was sailing away from him.

Prior to today's opener, Maynard was honored along with senior right-handers Mack Naughton and Josh Johnson as part of Senior Day festivities.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a 1:00 doubleheader Tuesday at conference and Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne. Meanwhile, the Owls have a 3:30 pm NE-10 date with visiting New Haven that afternoon.
