WEST HAVEN, NY–The College of Saint Rose split a Northeast-10 Conference divisional doubleheader at New Haven today. The Golden Knights (13-23/9-10 NE-10) won the opener 5-3, but fell 7-3 in the nightcap.

The Chargers (17-9/12-7 NE-10) pushed across five runs in the third inning of the finale to erase a 2-1 deficit after Saint Rose scored twice in the third via a New Haven error and an RBI base hit by senior designated hitter Scott Hladik.

Freshman shortstop Mike Flynn had a pair of hits, while junior left fielder Kyle Cullen went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Chargers.

In the opener, junior second baseman Ryan Hooker doubled down the left field line to score freshman third baseman Tyler Ungerland with the tying run in the sixth inning. Two batters later, sophomore center fielder Derek Reed drove home Hooker with a base hit to right. Flynn then added an insurance run in the eighth when he brought across Hooker from second with a base hit to left.

Hooker, Reed and junior first baseman Zac Bellinger had two hits each, while Flynn drove in a pair to lead the Saint Rose offense.

Sophomore right-hander Coby Schwartz gave up three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings of work to improve to 5-2 on the year. Sophomore southpaw Joe Pokrentowski then tossed 2.1 innings of two-hit ball, before handing things over to junior right-hander Chris Gould who worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his sixth save this spring.

Senior designated hitter Chris DeMorais, junior first baseman Zach Collett, and Cullen had two hits apiece for New Haven.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to play its final homestand of the year as conference rival Southern Connecticut State visits Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex for a three-game weekend series. Saturday's twin-bill gets underway at 12:00 pm, as does Sunday's series finale. Sunday is also Senior Day. Outfielder Brian Maynard, and right-handers Mack Naughton and Josh Johnson will be recognized during a pregame ceremony.
