SAINT ROSE FALLS AT AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Sophomore left fielder Chad Adams doubled in today's setback at American International.
Box Score

SPRINGFIELD–Host American International pushed across four runs in the sixth inning to upend The College of Saint Rose 4-2 in a Northeast-10 Conference divisional showdown earlier today.

Freshman third baseman Tyler Ungerland went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Golden Knights (12-22/8-9 NE-10) charge. Meanwhile, sophomore right-hander Phillip Zdanowski allowed one earned run and fanned five throughout 5.1 innings of a no-decision outing.

Saint Rose jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth when sophomore left fielder Chad Adams doubled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior second baseman Ryan Hooker.

However, the Yellow Jackets (12-22/5-17 NE-10) scored four runs in the sixth thanks mostly to a two-run single by senior center fielder Dan Asselin, who wound up 3-for-4. On the mound, junior right-hander David Kerlejza allowed two runs on seven hits to chalk up his first victory this spring.

The Golden Knights got a run back when junior catcher Lukas Nethaway and Ungerland led off the seventh with back-to-back doubles.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back on the road Friday for a 1:00 pm NE-10 divisional twin-bill at New Haven. The Golden Knights will then host conference rival Southern Connecticut State for a three-game weekend series. Saturday's twin-bill gets underway at 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets will entertain league foe Pace University for a three-game series this weekend.
