Box Score
SPRINGFIELD–Host American International pushed across four runs in the sixth inning to upend The College of Saint Rose 4-2 in a
Northeast-10 Conference divisional showdown earlier today.
Freshman third baseman
Tyler Ungerland went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Golden Knights (12-22/8-9 NE-10) charge. Meanwhile, sophomore right-hander
Phillip Zdanowski allowed one earned run and fanned five throughout 5.1 innings of a no-decision outing.
Saint Rose jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth when sophomore left fielder
Chad Adams doubled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior second baseman
Ryan Hooker.
However, the Yellow Jackets (12-22/5-17 NE-10) scored four runs in the sixth thanks mostly to a two-run single by senior center fielder Dan Asselin, who wound up 3-for-4. On the mound, junior right-hander David Kerlejza allowed two runs on seven hits to chalk up his first victory this spring.
The Golden Knights got a run back when junior catcher
Lukas Nethaway and Ungerland led off the seventh with back-to-back doubles.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back on the road Friday for a 1:00 pm NE-10 divisional twin-bill at New Haven. The Golden Knights will then host conference rival Southern Connecticut State for a three-game weekend series. Saturday's twin-bill gets underway at 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets will entertain league foe Pace University for a three-game series this weekend.
