PLEASANTVILLE, NYL–The College of Saint Rose suffered a 5-2 setback in the opening game of a weekend series at
Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University this afternoon. The Setters scored the winning run in the seventh to snap a 2-2 tie and then added a pair of insurance tallies in the eighth.
The Golden Knights subsequently brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Pace sophomore right-hander Dylan Mouzakes induced a double play and a groundout to chalk up his second save of the year.
Junior first baseman
Zac Bellinger went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a stolen base, while sophomore left fielder
Chad Adams finished 2-for-4 to lead the Saint Rose (11-20/7-7 NE-10) attack. Meanwhile, sophomore right-hander
Coby Schwartz allowed three runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings of work.
Pace jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, which is where things stood until the seventh when sophomore center fielder
Derek Reed smacked a base hit that scored freshman third baseman
Tyler Ungerland. Junior second baseman
Ryan Hooker also came across on the play via an outfield throwing error.
The Setters then countered in the bottom half on an RBI base hit by junior catcher Tom Midolo. They then pushed across two unearned runs an inning later via a Saint Rose infield error with the bases loaded.
Senior designated hitter Alexander Rough went 3-for-4 to lead the Setters offense. Meanwhile, junior southpaw Jonathan Chudy allowed one earned run on seven hits throughout 7.0 innings of work to go to 2-3 on the year.
Looking ahead, these two teams are scheduled to conclude their weekend series with a 12:00 pm doubleheader tomorrow.
