SAINT ROSE READY TO HOST ROBERTS WESLEYAN

2014 SAINT ROSE MEN'S SOCCER
Wednesday, October 8 | 7:00 pm
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex | Albany, New York
Roberts Wesleyan (6-2-2) at Saint Rose (1-7-1)

Live Stats | NE-10 Standings | Saint Rose Statistics | RWU Statistics
Series Record: 1-0 Saint Rose | First Meeting: 2013

Last Time Out: The College of Saint Rose kept 19th ranked and Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack off the scoreboard for 63 minutes, but the host Warriors finally broke through in the 64th minute and added another in the 86th to upend the Golden Knights 2-0 Saturday night. Junior keeper Colan Balkwell made a pair of saves in each half for Saint Rose.

Last Meeting (10/9/13): The Golden Knights scored four times within a 22-minute span during the early part of the second half on the way to a 5-1 non-league victory at Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester. The five goals represented their highest scoring output in five years. They had previously upended NE-10 rival Stonehill by an identical 5-1 final on October 18, 2008. In a strange twist, Saint Rose was outshot 18-15, including a 10-7 differential in threats-on-target, and engineered four corners kicks as opposed to six for the Redhawks. However, the Golden Knights made the most of their opportunities. Jacob Sand had a goal and set up two others, while Uros Antic scored twice, including what proved to be the game-winner. Meanwhile, junior midfielder Massimo Smiroldo and sophomore midfielder Tyler Casavant accounted for the other two strikes. Balkwell made nine saves to chalk up his first win in a Saint Rose uniform.

Scouting Saint Rose (1-7-1): The Golden Knights dropped their fifth one-goal game of the year last Tuesday when visiting Adelphi scored twice in the second half to complete a 2-1 come-from-behind victory. Freshman midfielder Kledis Capollari leads the squad with three goals on the year. Junior midfielder Nick Iuorno has a pair to his credit, while Balkwell owns a 1.49 goals-against-average throughout 788 of the team's 833 minutes.

Scouting Roberts Wesleyan (6-2-2): The Redhawks have won two straight following Sunday's 3-1 victory versus Mercy College. They now own identical 3-1-1 records at home and on the road. Senior forward Michael Cunningham leads the scoring parade behind seven goals and six assists. Senior midfielder Stephen Stewart is also a double-figures point producer with four strikes and a pair of helpers to his credit. Junior Michael Scavone has figured in all of the team's decisions. He owns a 0.60 GAA on the strength of three shutouts.

Up Next: Both sides return to the pitch for home matches this Saturday. The Golden Knights have a 1:00 pm date versus Franklin Pierce, while the Redhawks host East Coast Conference rival Daemen at 3:00 pm.
