Last Time Out: The College of Saint Rose dropped its first home game of the year in dramatic fashion with Saturday's 110-107 overtime setback to visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire. The game featured 17 ties and 19 lead changes, but the Penmen outscored the Golden Knights 10-3 throughout a two minute span late in the extra session that afforded them a comfortable seven point, 110-103, margin with 18 seconds left. Three student-athletes registered "double-doubles" for Saint Rose, including sophomore forward Tyler Sayre who ascended the 30-point barrier for the third time this year. Sayre wound up with 37 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists. As for Southern New Hampshire, freshman forward Chris Walters led five double-figure scorers with 24 points.
Student-Athlete Academic Appreciation Night: One hundred and thirty-eight Saint Rose student-athletes will be recognized at halftime in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements throughout the past year. Hugh Johnson Advisors LLC is the presenting sponsor for tonight's ceremony.
Last Meeting: Saint Rose outscored host Saint Michael's 42-28 in the second half to pull off a 65-56 victory last January 26. Senior center Dominykas Milka finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for his 11th "double-double" of the year. Sayre added 14 points while senior guard Dan Mundweiler was in double-figures for the fifth straight game with 13 points. Sophomore forward Chris Dorgler contributed 11 points and a career-high five steals in 21 minutes off the bench. The Purple Knights were led by junior forwards James Cambronne and Mike Thompson. The former scored 14 points while Thompson filled the stat sheet with 11 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and a like number of blocks.
The Series: Saint Rose owns a 17-4 lead in the series that dates back to the 1999 NCAA Tournament. The Golden Knights have won 10 of the last 11 meetings, including six straight at home.
Scouting Saint Rose (9-8 | 6-5 NE-10): Milka was named the NE-10 Co-Player of the Week on Monday after he averaged 26.0 points and 16.5 rebounds throughout a pair of contests…The Golden Knights have now dropped five games by five or fewer points this season following Saturday's setback…They have also won four such encounters…Saturday's 107 points represented their highest offensive production since a 108-98 victory at Dominican 11 year ago….Milka is one of only five players in Saint Rose annals to record more than 1,000 points (1,343) and 800 rebounds (837)…He is second among the nation's active leaders with 35 career "double-doubles" while his 837 boards place him third within that demographic…Milka currently stands fourth in the country with a league-leading 12.4 rebounding average…He is furthermore third among the NE-10 scoring leaders with 20.6 points per-game, while Sayre stands fifth at 19.0 ppg…Saint Rose owns a +2.7 turnover margin and has held its opponents to 43.4 percent shooting from the floor throughout its nine victories…Conversely, the Golden Knights have manufactured a +0.4 turnover margin and have allowed their foes to connect on 48.1 percent of their field goal attempts during their eight setbacks...Those eight losses have come against teams that own an 83-35 (.735) collective record entering tonight.
Scouting Saint Michael's (11-4 | 6-4 NE-10): Saint Michael's has dropped back-to-back games for the first time all season…The Purple Knights suffered a 78-68 defeat to visiting New Haven a week ago yesterday and fell 88-85 at Southern Connecticut State on Saturday…Six players average at least 9.0 points including junior guard Mike Holton, Jr. and Cambronne who are averaging 16.8 and 16.2 points respectively…Junior guard Corey Crawford is scoring at a 12.7 ppg clip, while freshman forward Matt Bonds is averaging 10.9 points and a team-leading 7.9 rebounds throughout 23.0 minutes off the bench…Holton, Jr. moved into 24th place among the program's all-time scoring (1,149) leaders on Saturday…Bonds has been named the NE-10 Rookie of the Week on three occasions…The Purple Knights do not have any seniors listed on their roster.
Up Next: The Golden Knights have a bye this weekend before heading to Waltham, MA to face conference rival Bentley next Wednesday, January 29. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm as part of a league doubleheader. Meanwhile, the Purple Knights are back on the hardwood this Saturday, January 25, when they are scheduled to entertain NE-10 foe Pace University in Colchester, VT. Game-time is 3:30 pm.
