SAINT ROSE SUFFERS OVERTIME SETBACK TO SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Sophomore forward Tyler Sayre ascended the 30-point plateau for the third time this season.

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose dropped its first home game of the year in heartbreaking fashion with today's 110-107 overtime setback to visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire.

The game featured 17 ties and 19 lead changes, but the Penmen (9-6/7-5 NE-10) outscored the Golden Knights 10-3 throughout a two minute span late in the extra session that afforded them a seven point, 110-103, margin with 18 seconds left.

Saint Rose senior guard Dan Mundweiler then hit a jumper with 8 ticks left and following a Southern turnover, he was forced to rush a 3-pointer from the left corner that was off the mark. Senior center Dominykas Milka finished the miss with less than a second left, but the Penmen only had to inbound to ball to run their win streak to four games.

The Golden Knights (9-8/6-5 NE-10) manufactured a 46-27 rebounding margin that helped them produce a 21-6 differential in second chance points, but Southern New Hampshire overcame that by shooting a blistering 53.8 percent (14-for-26) from the arc.

Three student-athletes registered "double-doubles" for Saint Rose, including sophomore forward Tyler Sayre who ascended the 30-point barrier for the third time this year. Sayre wound up with 37 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists. Mika had 27 points and a game-high 17 boards, while sophomore guard Chris Dorgler finished with 16 points and 10 boards in his first career start. Mundweiler tossed in a season-high 15 points. Freshman guard Isaiah Cosbert added 10.

As for Southern New Hampshire, freshman forward Chris Walters led five double-figure scorers with 24 points. Junior forward Elijah Bonsignore and senior guard Mike Stys scored 21 and 10 apiece. Stys also handed out five assists without a turnover. Furthermore, senior guard C.J. Marriro scored 19 points to go with four assists and a like number of steals, while sophomore forward Rodney Sanders added 16 points.

Looking ahead, both teams return to conference action with 7:30 pm games this Wednesday, January 22. The Golden Knights will host Saint Michael's for Student-Athlete Academic Appreciation Night presented by Hugh Johnson Advisors. Meanwhile, the Penmen have a date at Adelphi on Long Island.
