GOLDEN KNIGHTS COME BACK TO UPEND CALDWELL IN OVERTIME

Senior back Dylan Klippenstein drew Saint Rose even at 1-1 in tonight's overtime victory versus Caldwell.
Box Score

ALBANY – Senior forward Juan Garzon converted a penalty kick in the 95th minute to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 2-1 come-from-behind overtime victory against Caldwell tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Senior back Dylan Klippenstein drew the Golden Knights even at 1-1 when he one-timed home a feed into the top corner off a delivery on the right flank from senior forward Jacob Sand with 63:21 gone by.

The Cougars (0-1) previously took advantage of one of their few opportunities in the opening four minutes of the second half when junior back Steve Petrosino redirected a corner past the goal line.

Overall, the Golden Knights (1-0) generated a 24-6 shot advantage and following intermission spent the majority of time in the offensive end. Sophomore midfielder Nick Iuorno and Garzon had two shots-on-goal apiece in the final 11 minutes, but each sailed just above the crossbar. Garzon had perhaps the most dangerous opportunity with a header at the 87:50 mark.

Regardless, overtime ensued and Iuorno was dragged down as he dribbled through the area. Garzon then calmly drove home the penalty kick to allow the Golden Knights (1-0) to open their 2013 campaign in style.

Between the posts, Saint Rose freshman keeper Christian Esposito came up with a pair of saves in his collegiate debut. Sophomore Michael Hartman turned aside six shots for Caldwell.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will host Felician this Saturday for a 5:00 pm non-conference match. Meanwhile, Caldwell travels to West Chester (PA) for a 4:00 pm date Monday, September 9.
