WALTHAM, MA –The College of Saint Rose got out to a 5-0 lead before host Bentley rallied to complete a sweep with an 8-5 victory in the nightcap of a
Northeast-10 Conference crossover doubleheader today. The Falcons previously jumped out to a 6-0 advantage on the way to a 10-1 victory in the opener.
Freshman right-hander
Phillip Zdanowski allowed one earned run on four hits and fanned six thoughout 6.0 innings during a no-decision outing in game two. Sophomore right fielder
Lukas Nethaway went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to pace the offense. Senior first baseman
A.J. Capone also finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while junior shortstop
Joseph Carcone wound up 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Meanwhile, shortstop Will Brennan went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored to pace Bentley (11-14/4-6 NE-10).
The Golden Knights went up 2-0 in the finale after Nethaway stroked a fifth inning double to left that scored freshman third baseman
Chad Adams who drew a leadoff walk. Nethaway then scored following a sacrifice and a Capone base hit.
In the seventh, freshman catcher
Corey Burrows lofted a sac fly to center that brought across Nethaway. Freshman center fielder
Derek Reed scored on a Carcone single and a Bentley error that made it 4-0 Saint Rose (4-25/1-9 NE-10). Senior designated hitter
Caleb Gleason then knocked in Carcone on a base hit to left.
However, Bentley pushed across eight runs in the home half. A Brennan two-run double and a triple off the bat of junior third baseman Nate Witkowski accounted for much of the damage.
In the opener, the Falcons scored once in the first, twice in the second, and three times in the third to put themselves in the driver's seat. Gleason went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Saint Rose while junior center fielder Sean Keady finished 4-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases to pace the Falcons. Also, senior right-hander Jeff Crouteau scattered five hits and recorded nine strikeouts, with only one walk, over the distance to improve to 5-2 on the season.
Looking ahead, both squads have 12:00 pm conference crossover doubleheaders tomorrow as well. The Golden Knights will make the 30 mile trek south on Route 95 to take on Stonehill in Easton, MA. Meanwhile, the Falcons will host Le Moyne.
