Saint Rose (7-33/4-16 NE-10) vs. Assumption (13-23/9-12 NE-10)
Live Stats | NE-10 Standings
The Plot: The Golden Knights come into today aiming to avenge an earlier 4-3 setback at Assumption.
Last Meeting (4/10/13): Saint Rose rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a run in the seventh and one more in the eighth, but could not add another and thus suffered the 4-3 loss. Freshman shortstop
Chad Adams finished 3-for-4 and junior left fielder
Scott Hladik wound up 2-for-4 with a triple to pace the Golden Knights offense. Also, senior designated hitter
Caleb Gleason added an RBI single. As for Assumption, senior third baseman Travis Smith went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and senior left fielder Nick Napoli drove in a pair.
Last Time Out: Junior right-hander
Josh Johnson tossed a complete game gem to lead Saint Rose past visiting New Haven 2-1 in the finale of a three-game weekend series Sunday afternoon. After the Chargers scored an unearned run in the first, Johnson kept them off the board throughout the final 8.0 innings and worked out of a second and third, no out jam in the eighth. Johnson allowed seven hits and fanned eight over the distance to pick up the victory. Five players had one hit apiece for the Golden Knights who pushed across the winning run in the fifth.
Scouting Saint Rose: The Golden Knights are now 5-8 in one-run games following Sunday's victory. Gleason was named to the NE-10 weekly honor roll on Monday. He batted .500 (10-for-20), scored four runs and drove in two others to go along with a pair of stolen bases throughout five games last week. Junior shortstop
Joseph Carcone has reached base in 15 consecutive contests. Sophomore right-hander
Chris Gould gave up just four hits in 8.0 innings of work, but suffered the loss in last Wednesday's 2-1 setback at UMass Lowell. Gould has surrendered two or less earned runs in five of his nine starts this spring.
Scouting Assumption: The Greyhounds have won six of their last 10 games. Senior shortstop Shane Keddy has been named the NE-10 Player of the Week and NCBWA East Region Hitter of the Week. Keddy paces the Greyhounds with a .529 slugging percentage and a .422 on-base percentage. He is also batting a team-leading .324 (44-for-136). Smith owns a team-high 19 extra base hits. Senior right-hander Dan Bradley has made 15 appearances, all in relief, and has fanned 28 while walking only seven throughout 32.0 innings of work.
Up Next: Saint Rose has a three-game series at Adelphi University on Long Island this weekend. The two squads will play a pair on Saturday and then wrap-up the series Sunday. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds have a 3:00 pm neutral site date versus Rollins College tomorrow. The contest is scheduled to be played at Bentley University in Waltham, MA.
