Box Score

WORCESTER, MA – The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a run in the seventh and one more in the eighth, but could not add another and thus fell 4-3 at Northeast-10 Conference divison rival Assumption this afternoon.

Freshman shortstop Chad Adams finished 3-for-4 and junior left fielder Scott Hladik wound up 2-for-4 with a triple to pace the Golden Knights offense. Also, senior designated hitter Caleb Gleason added an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Meanwhile, junior right-hander Josh Johnson breezed through 3.0 innings of relief work. Johnson allowed only one hit and 24 of the 29 pitches he threw were strikes.

As for Assumption (9-19/5-8 NE-10), senior third baseman Travis Smith went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and senior left fielder Nick Napoli drove in a pair.

The Greyhounds (9-19/5-8 NE-10) took an early 3-0 lead, but Saint Rose (5-27/2-11 NE-10) got on the board in in the fourth when Gleason smacked a single to right that scored sophomore right fielder Lukas Nethaway. Assumption boosted its advantage back to three runs in the fifth after Smith scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore right fielder Billy Johnson.

The Golden Knights cut into their deficit two innings later. Freshman catcher Corey Burrows drew a walk after falling behind 1-2, sophomore second baseman Ryan Hooker doubled to the gap in left-center and freshman third baseman Erik Martin grounded out to short to score Burrows.

In the eighth, Hladik led off with a triple to left and came across via a Nethaway sacrifice fly. Johnson then stranded an Assumption insurance run at third in the bottom half of the frame, but senior right-hander Dan Bradley retired the Golden Knights in order in the ninth to chalk up his fifth save of the season.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose begins a three-game conference series Friday at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds open up a three-game series Saturday at NE-10 rival Adelphi on Long Island.
