LANTNA, FL – The College of Saint Rose dropped both ends a doubleheader versus Wilmington today at the Palm Beach Challenge. The Golden Knights (2-8) fell 7-4 in the opener and 8-2 in the finale.
The Wildcats (7-5) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings in the first game and then rallied from a 2-0 deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth of the nightcap, in which the Golden Knights stranded seven runners.
Sophomore first baseman
Zac Bellinger finished 2-for-4 with a double to lead Saint Rose in game one.
In the finale, freshman shortstop
Chad Adams went 2-for-3 with a run scored to extend his hitting streak to seven games, while sophomore second baseman
Ryan Hooker reached base three times with an RBI base hit and a pair of walks.
Senior leftfielder Brandon Payne went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a stolen base in the second game, while senior shortstop Jonathan Rodriguez and sophomore catcher Matt Lopes had three hits apiece to lead the Wildcats in the opener.
Looking ahead, both teams have 11:00 am games tomorrow. Saint Rose is scheduled to play its final contest at the Palm Beach Challenge versus Dominican, while Wilmington has a date at Lynn University in Boca Raton.
