LANTANA, FL – A five-run ninth inning fell short as Concordia jumped out to a 7-0 lead and held on to upend The College of Saint Rose 10-8 this afternoon at the Palm Beach Challenge.
Sophomore first baseman
Zac Bellinger went 2-for-3 with two RBI, freshman center fielder
Derek Reed finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and freshman shortstop
Chad Adams went 2-for-3 to lead the Golden Knights (1-6) offense.
Meanwhile, sophomore first baseman Cristian Fiorito drove in three runs and scored two more while going 2-for-4 from the plate for the Clippers (2-2).
Concordia scored once in the second, six times in the fifth, and then tacked on three more runs in the eighth to go up 10-1 before Saint Rose scored twice in the bottom half of the latter frame.
In the ninth, sophomore right-fielder
Lukas Nethaway belted an RBI double; while Reed and Bellinger stroked RBI base hits. Junior pinch hitter
Brian Maynard added a sacrifice fly and freshman pinch hitter
Corey Burrows scored on a passed ball to account for the five Saint Rose runs, before Concordia induced a game-ending double play.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back on the field tomorrow with a 12:00 pm game versus Dominican in Lantana. Meanwhile, Concordia continues its stretch at the Palm Beach Challenge on Thursday with a pair of games. The Clippers will face the University of the Sciences-Philadelphia at 11:00 am and meet Bloomfield at 3:00 pm.
