Box Score

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose opened the second half with a 14-3 run and shot 68.2 percent (15-for-22) from the floor throughout the final 20 minutes en route to a 61-54 victory against the Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. In the process, the Golden Knights (8-12/5-11 NE-10) picked up a key half point to afford the College at 6.0 points – 3.5 points lead in the year-long Upstate Challenge rivalry series between the two schools.

Sophomore guard Gabie Polce and freshman guard Tyler Hansen led a balanced Saint Rose (8-2/5-11 NE-10) attack with 14 points apiece. Junior guard Desiree Simmons tossed in 11 while senior forward Jessica Walton added 10 on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor. Polce also handed out five assists, while Hansen scored 13 of her 14 points in the second stanza.

Freshman forward Lauren Price tossed in 13 points throughout 12 minutes off the bench and sophomore guard Emily Greer had 11 points and seven boards to lead Le Moyne (5-15/3-13 NE-10).

The Golden Knights surge transformed a 26-23 halftime deficit into a 37-29 lead with 14:40 remaining in the ballgame. Simmons finished inside and then hit a jumper to ignite the run, before Hansen drained a jumper herself and converted a fastbreak off her own steal to cap it.

The Dolphins got it back to within three, 42-39, when Greer drained a 3-pointer with 10:53 remaining. However, Saint Rose responded with a 15-6 jaunt throughout the ensuing eight minutes that put the Golden Knights in the catbird seat, 57-45, with 2:46 to play. Le Moyne managed to get it back to within five in the last 11 seconds by fouling, but Polce drained a pair from the stripe that allowed the Golden Knights to win their second straight at home.

The first half was back and forth with three ties and six lead changes, before Le Moyne walked into the locker room up 26-23 at the break. The Dolphins outrebounded the Golden Knights 23-14 and held Saint Rose 32.0 percent (8-for-25) shooting from the floor during the opening 20 minutes.

Looking ahead, both teams have 1:30 pm conference games scheduled for Saturday. The Golden Knights will travel to New Haven to take on Southern Connecticut State, while Le Moyne will host Assumption in Syracuse.
