WORCESTER, MA – Assumption closed on a 14-4 run to defeat The College of Saint Rose 63-58 this evening at Laska Gym in a
Northeast-10 Conference encounter. The contest experienced nine lead changes and seven ties.
Junior center
Dominykas Milka paced Saint Rose (12-12/9-11 NE-10) with game-highs of 23 points and eight rebounds. A pair of freshmen, forward
Tyler Sayre and guard
Chris Dorgler, finished with 10 points apiece.
Three players factored into double-figure scoring for the Greyhounds (18-6/15-5) as senior forward Tim Beinert finished with 18 points. Senior forward Ronson Quick and graduate student Kevin Donahue contributed 15 and 14 points respectively. Meanwhile, senior guard Ryan Rozsnaki dished out 11 of the Greyhound's 19 assists.
Assumption closed the game on a 6-0 run in the final minute as Saint Rose was unable to convert in the closing stages. After a Milka jumper afforded Saint Rose a 58-57 lead, Quick gave Assumption the lead back with a tip-in just 30 seconds later. The Greyhounds then went 4-for-6 from the charity stripe to seal the victory.
Junior guard
Dan Mundweiler buried a 3-pointer in the final minute of the first half to give the Golden Knights a 32-29 at intermission; the first lead for Saint Rose since the score was 4-2 just two minutes in. The Greyhounds had previously owned a nine-point advantage earlier in the half before the Golden Knights finished on a 26-14 run.
Sayre scored all 10 of his points in the first period as Milka added the same output in the half. Assumption shot 54.2 (13-for-24) in the period while Rozsnaki tallied eight assists.
Looking ahead, both teams will be in action at 3:30 pm Saturday for NE-10 meetings. Saint Rose hosts rival American International for “Senior Day,” while Assumption travels to Pleasantville, NY to face Pace University.
