Box Score

GARDEN CITY, NY – Host Adelphi overcame a four point halftime deficit by shooting 50.0 percent (13-for-26) from the floor throughout the second stanza to hold off the Golden Knights 77-67 in a Northeast-10 Conference encounter this evening at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Senior forward Jessica Walton recorded career-highs of 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks to lead Saint Rose (9-13/6-12 NE-10), which had its three-game win streak snapped. Sophomore guard Gabie Polce also had 18 points to finish in twin-figures for the fifth straight game, while junior guard Desiree Simmons tossed in a career-high 17 via 5-for-9 shooting.

Meanwhile, junior guard Ifeanyi Ofili led a balanced Adelphi (12-10/9-9 NE-10) attack with 15 points. Junior forward Jessica Kitrys and sophomore forward Jenna Halaby scored 13 each, while junior guard Sade Jackson and sophomore forward Kelly Mannix added 12 and 11 respectively.

The Panthers trailed by six in the opening moments of the second half, but whittled their deficit to a bucket, 43-41, with 12:14 to go. They then took off on a 19-5 jaunt to take a 12 point, 60-48, lead with 6:39 remaining.

The Golden Knights kept their composure though and responded with an 11-5 spurt to get to within six, 65-59, with 2:49 left after Simmons came up with a steal and converted a three-point play at the other end. However, the Panthers went 9-for-10 from the foul line throughout the final 1:37 to improve to 8-3 at home this season.

In the first half, Saint Rose limited Adelphi to only two field goals during the final 5:20 to go in the locker room up 33-29 at the break.

Looking ahead, both teams have 1:30 pm conference dates on tap for Saturday. The Golden Knights will host Pace University for its annual Coaches vs. Cancer/Pink Zone Game. All proceeds will go towards the fight against the cancer. Meanwhile, Adelphi will head to Worcester, MA to take on Assumption.
