SAINT ROSE FALLS AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

NEW HAVEN – Host Southern Connecticut State shot 52.9 percent from the floor and outscored The College of Saint Rose 30-3 from the arc to upend the Golden Knights 78-60 in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at the James W. Moore Fieldhouse.

Junior center Dominykas Milka led Saint Rose (10-11/7-10 NE-10) with 17 points and six boards, while freshman forward Chris Dorgler tied his season-high of 14 points to go with a career-best eight rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. Fellow freshman forward Tyler Sayre also had 14 points to wind up in twin-figures for the sixth straight game.

Senior forward Trevon Hamlet led all scorers with 25 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Tylon Smith and freshman guard Deshawn Murphy scored 20 and 16 respectively for the Owls who have now won seven of their last eight, including five straight.

Southern Connecticut State led throughout with the exception of a pair of occasions in the opening two minutes. The Owls seized control by opening the second half with a 27-10 run that boosted a five point, 37-32, halftime lead to a 22 point, 64-42, cushion with 11:57 remaining. The Golden Knights could not get any closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back on the road Wednesday, February 13, with a 7:30 pm meeting at conference rival Adelphi on Long Island. Meanwhile, the Owls return home Tuesday, February 12, to host NE-10 rival Pace at 7:30 pm.
