BRIGHTEST NCAA ERA CAMPAIGN COMES TO A CLOSE

Box Score

MANCHESTER, NH–The College of Saint Rose had the finest campaign of its NCAA era (1992) come to a close with a 5-0 Northeast-10 Conference Championship quarterfinal setback at defending league champion Southern New Hampshire tonight.

The Golden Knights (8-10), who were making their first-ever NE-10 Championship appearance, reached the eight-win mark for the first time since 1990 when they finished 9-8 overall during their NAIA era. In fact, 2013 is only the third time Saint Rose has ever accumulated eight victories (1989 and 1990) in its 35-year history.

As for this evening, the Penmen (16-1) ran their win streak to 16 games by scoring three times in the opening 27 minutes. The leagues' top scorer, senior forward Pierre Omanga converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute before senior midfielder Christian Rodriguez and junior midfielder Keegan Campbell struck 10 minutes apart to make it 3-0 Southern New Hampshire at intermission.

Senior forward Brian Francolini then came on as a reserve and struck twice within a 12-minute span to close out the scoring for the Penmen who are ranked #10 in the final regular-season NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll.

Sophomore keeper Colan Balkwell made 10 of his season-high 11 saves in the first half for Saint Rose. At the other end, senior Dom DiMaggio was called upon to make one save throughout 62 minutes of action.

Southern New Hampshire will now host fourth-seed Adelphi in a semifinal encounter on Friday. The Panthers advanced with a 3-0 win versus fifth-seed Le Moyne this evening.
