Box Score
ROCHESTER–The College of Saint Rose scored four times within a 22-minute span during the early part of the second half on the way to a 5-1 non-league victory at Roberts Wesleyan this evening. The five goals represent the Golden Knights highest scoring output in five years. They previously upended
Notheast-10 Conference rival Stonehill by an identical 5-1 final on October 18, 2008.
In a strange twist, the Golden Knights (4-6) were outshot 18-15, including a 10-7 differential in threats-on-target, and engineered four corners kicks as opposed to six for the Redhawks (2-8-1).
However, they made the most of their opportunities. Senior forward
Jacob Sand had a goal and set up two others, while freshman midfielder
Uros Antic scored twice, including what proved to be the game-winner.
Meanwhile, sophomore midfielder
Massimo Smiroldo and freshman midfielder
Tyler Casavant accounted for the other two strikes, while sophomore keeper
Colan Balkwell made a season-high nine saves to chalk up his first win in a Saint Rose uniform.
Junior forward Stephen Stewart recorded the lone Roberts Wesleyan goal.
Smiroldo made it 1-0 when he dribbled into the box and connected with 11:37 gone by. Stewart then drew the Redhawks even with only 1:04 showing on the clock before intermission, but Antic and Sand struck throughout the initial five minutes of the second period to make it a two-goal affair. Antic then found the back of the net again with 68:03 elapsed and Casavant did the same a mere 32 seconds later to put the Golden Knights in the driver's seat.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to NE-10 action Saturday with a 7:00 pm date at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH. Meanwhile, Roberts Wesleyan is off until Friday, October 18 when Bridgeport visits for a 7:00 pm East Coast Conference match.
